Anyone have any insights? Also does anyone know of any after market deployant straps that fit on big Panerai straps? ps: is the fauxtina a dealbreaker for anyone? I was on the fence. love the look.. I didn't mind how soft and plyable the straps were, especially compared to other canvas straps I've tried. There is definitely a premium for the Panerai straps that can't be justified based on the quality of the product (they're good but not that good). I'd say go for whatever strap you like - whether it's made by Panerai or not. The only things I would avoid are fake straps, i.e. non-Panerai straps and buckles that have Panerai branding.

Lately I have become obsessed with this style of watch however I don't know about the "best" Panerai homage. I still see the Paulareis and Benyar Panerai automatic "homage" watches for sale on eBay. There is a brand supposedly made in the UK called "Archive" that produce a Panerai homage with a quartz movement that has me intrigued. So far I ordered 4 watches with tat and even though the straps are great quality, they barely fit my 8 inch wrists. So I ended up buying new straps. As for the sapphire, I used that option on my 44mm but tat didn't have dome sapphire for 47mm. But if I had the option, I would just because I know the watch will get banged up in my line of work.
Ritmo Mundo made two nice Panerai homage pieces (c. 2005) -- the Ponte (ETA 2824) and the Colliseum (Quartz chrono). Also, Zeno used to make a Carre 3557 chronograph. I'm surprised no one mentioned the Erken Batiscofo or "haute precision" chronograph as Panerai homage pieces. Their straps are highly customizable, and a big attraction for me is they have the Panerai quick release system as an option and also offer a curved end option. They aren't necessarily cheap, but do seem to be a good value as compared to OEM panerai which are 0-500+ and have limited options for 22mm lugs.
